Problem 1. Using Terzaghi equation, find the bearing capacity of a footing. Necessary data was given. Footing size 2m х 2m and having a depth of foundation is 1m,
if take for C-φ soil, C= 18kN/m2, ૪=18kN/m3, φ= 0.350, Nc = 57.7, Nq=14.4, N૪= 42.4?
Solution:
We know that, Ultimate bearing capacity for square footing,
Qult = 1.3 C'Nc +qNq + 0.4૪BN૪
= (1.3*18*57.7) + (18*1*14.4) + (0.4*18*2*42.4)
= 2219.97 N/m2
Answer: 2219.97 N/m2
Problem 2. Determine the ultimate bearing capacity of a strip footing 1.2 m wide and having a depth of foundation 1.5m, take C-φ solil, C= 30kN/m2, ૪=20kN/m3, φ= 0, Nc = 5.14, Nq=1.0, N૪= 2.4?
Solution:
We know that, Ultimate bearing capacity for strip footing,
Qult = C'Nc +qNq +( 1/2)૪BN૪
= (30*5.14) + (20*1.5*1) + (1/2*20*1.2*2.4)
= 213 kN/m2
Answer: 213 kN/m2
2nd number question/ strip footing formula is incorrect. please correct this question. I think you understand this question. Please add 2/3 at cnc
